The fund aims:
a. to conduct world-class research in frontier areas of science and to maintain a conducive environment of scientific enquiry for the entire ICTP and UNESCO community.
b. to foster growth of advanced studies and research in physical and mathematical sciences through high-level scientific programs especially in support of excellence in the developing world to help bridge the knowledge divide.
c. to promote science advocacy and international cooperation through science by providing an international forum of scientific contact for scientists from all countries.
