Fondation Hirondelle’s mission is to provide useful, impartial and independent information to
populations deprived of it by conflict, crisis, disaster or any other situation where the right to information is violated for any other reason, particularly in the face of violent propaganda. This mission is carried out without any distinction of nationality, race, opinion or religion
between potential beneficiaries.
Fondation Hirondelle carries out this mission by supporting and developing media outlets and
teams of journalists in the field, in countries and regions facing multiple, overlapping crises
(including security, political, climate, and health). Fondation Hirondelle’s media programs give local
populations access to reliable information and platforms for dialogue, helping them to take action
in their daily lives and cope with the challenges they face.
The principles guiding the work of Fondation Hirondelle are rooted in the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights, which states in Article 19: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. The guides, charters and codes that guide the work of Fondation Hirondelle and its teams are based on journalistic and
humanitarian ethics.
The foundation’s action aims to contribute to goal 16 of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 for
sustainable development, target 10 of which stresses the importance of guaranteeing “public access to information and protecting fundamental freedoms”. In editorial terms, this manifests itself in an
inclusive and balanced representativeness, reflecting the societies it serves. Operating at the
confluence of journalism, humanitarianism and development, Fondation Hirondelle combines these
imperatives by offering responsible information, always aware of its influence on the fragile areas
where it operates, seeking innovative media solutions for each context.
