About

The public administrative establishment responsible for the conservation and restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, as provided for by the law of July 29, 2019, was created on December 1, 2019. It is tasked with overseeing, coordinating, and carrying out the studies and operations contributing to the conservation and restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

In December 2024, Notre-Dame de Paris reopened its doors after five years of an exceptional restoration project. Following the fire in April 2019, the building had suffered extremely severe damage: its wooden framework and spire were completely destroyed, and their collapse brought down part of the vaults and devastated the interior space. That very evening, at the site, the President of the Republic announced, “We will rebuild Notre-Dame de Paris,” setting a real challenge: to reopen the cathedral within five years.

A human adventure then began, supported by an unprecedented outpouring of generosity from donors around the world.

With this challenge met, the effort continues today to restore parts of the cathedral’s exterior that were already in poor condition long before the fire.

These works concern the apse — walls and flying buttresses — the three great rose windows, the north and south façades of the transept, the exterior of the sacristy and the presbytery, as well as that of the nave and the rear of the towers. Today, only part of this work has been launched and funded.
