MEDITERRANEA owns 2 ships, the MEDITERRANEA and the MARE JONIO, that operate search and rescue missions in the central Mediterranean sea. Based in Italy, we are an association with approx 1,500 members and 300 core volunteers based in 40 cities around Italy and Europe. Our sea missions started in 2018, but we have been present in Ukraine since March 2022 and in the West Bank since June 2024.
Aside from the rescue activity, our main mission is to monitor and report on human rights violations and advocate for freedom of movement for all.
In Ukraine we had a constant presence with a medical programme for 2.5 years, at the moment we continue our missions that bring aid and solidarity to the community and our local partners in Lviv. In the the West Bank we support the non violent resistance movement of the palestinian population and we monitor and report on all violations of human rights perpetrated by occupation forces in the Masafer Yatta area near Hebron.
