Created in 1951 at the instigation of H.M. Queen Elisabeth, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, intended for violinists, pianists, singers and, since 2017, cellists, has quickly established itself as one of the major international classical music competitions. The Competition owes its reputation to extremely strict rules, but also to its jury, made up of world-renowned performers and teachers.
Its objective is above all to help talented young musicians to embark on an international career, thanks to radio and television broadcasts and on streaming on the Competition’s website, but also thanks to the organisation of numerous concerts in Belgium and abroad. For the finalists, one of the highlights of the Competition is their stay at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, which offers them an opportunity to spend a whole week studying, without any external assistance, a new work to be performed with an orchestra.
