Improving education in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is the country with the most pronounced education inequality in Europe. As International PISA indicate, 40% of 15-year-old students in Bulgaria are functionally illiterate and the students in smaller cities and villages can fall behind up to three years in their knowledge as compared to their peers in the bigger cities. Teach for Bulgaria has been operating since 2010 with the mission to provide equal access to quality education for every child in Bulgaria, regardless of where they live, which school they go to, their ethnic background and their family’s socioeconomic status. We believe that every child should learn from motivated teachers who support them to unleash their full potential and give them the opportunities to develop their knowledge and capabilities in 21 century. So far, since its establishment, Teach For Bulgaria has trained and placed more than 370 teachers in more than 11 regions in the country, reaching more than 18 000 students. Teach For Bulgaria is part of the international Teach For All network, consisting of 36 non-profit organisations with a shared vision of expanding educational opportunity and access to quality education for every child in their countries.
