Over the past 25 years, the PATRIZIA Foundation has helped improve the lives of more than 800,000 children and young people across the globe. By investing in education, childcare, training and health infrastructure, the foundation follows a sustainable model shaped by long-term commitment, local partnerships, and measurable impact.
What are your organisation’s core mission and values? What inspired its creation?
The PATRIZIA Foundation provides children and young people around the world with access to high-quality education, care and health support, so they can lead self-determined lives in freedom. Since 1999, our work has been shaped by long-term commitment, partnership, transparency, sustainability and measurable impact. At its heart is a simple belief:
What challenges and issues does your organisation aim to address? Why are they important?
We focus on unequal access to education, care and health support, especially in communities affected by poverty and structural disadvantage. These challenges matter because, without learning, protection and stability, children are denied the chance to shape their own future. That is why we invest in schools, training centres, childcare, health infrastructure and programmes that create lasting opportunity rather than short-term relief.
Can you share an example of your impact on the ground?
One strong example is PATRIZIA Child Care Mymensingh in Bangladesh, developed together with our local partner MATI Bangladesh. The centre combines early childhood education and day care with a broader approach to long-term community resilience, including space for health services, training and income-generating activities. It gives young children a safe and nurturing start in life, while also helping families build more stable futures.
Looking back, what key milestones or achievements are you most proud of?
Over more than 25 years, the foundation has helped reach around 800,000 children and young people worldwide. Behind this impact lies a strong and sustainable model: our projects are designed for the long term, with partnerships intended to last at least 25 years, and 100% of donations go directly into project work because administrative costs are covered separately. That combination of sustainability, trust and accountability is central to how we create impact.
What are the main programmes, projects, or initiatives you are currently developing?
A key priority for us right now is expanding access to quality education through projects with strong local relevance and long-term impact. One particularly important example is the PATRIZIA Akelius Vocational Training Centre Bumthang in Bhutan, where young people – especially girls in a region with limited vocational opportunities – receive high-quality training, support and accommodation so they can build independent futures.
How can individual donors support your work and get involved in your initiatives?
People can support us in a number of ways: through one-off or long-term donations or through strategic partnerships that help us connect more communities to education and care. We especially value collaboration with companies, foundations and civil society partners who share our commitment to creating lasting opportunities for children and young people. As our work is transparent and long-term, supporters can clearly see what their contribution is helping to build.
What role does Giving Europe play for your organisation? How does cross-border giving strengthen your mission?
Giving Europe is hugely valuable to us because it makes international fundraising far more practical and accessible. It allows supporters in different countries to donate to our work while receiving a donation receipt that is recognised in their own national context. That makes a real difference, because it means we can offer international donors a tax-efficient way to give without having to establish a separate foundation structure in every country. In short, Giving Europe helps us welcome support from around the world while keeping the process simple, trusted and efficient for donors and for us.
What are your priorities for the coming years?
Our priorities for the coming years are to deepen the quality and resilience of our existing projects, expand our reach towards one million children and young people by 2030, and continue building strong international partnerships. We also want to keep improving how we measure and communicate impact, because transparency and evidence are essential to sustainable philanthropy. Above all, we want to remain a reliable long-term partner to the communities we serve.
